Apart from religious importance, there are other reasons too for conducting Sunday schools. Initially Sunday schools were started in order to educate the slum or underprivileged children who could not afford to go to school. Soon the concept of Sunday schools took shape of charitable institutions where philanthropic works were conducted for the benefit of mankind. The schools started gaining importance gradually with the introduction of several newer courses in order to make the education system more streamlined. The church ministries also approve of these ways of supporting Christianity. Sunday schools also offer arts and crafts lessons where students tend to improve more. Variations are found in the Sunday schools as there are various programs in the churches all over the globe. The curriculum of Sunday schools are singing hymns, reading Bible and community service along with church services some schools, there are Bishops who conduct classes. There are Sunday schools for atheists where children of non believers are made to attend so that they understand the importance of the Christian religion. |
