Classical Christian Education



Classical Christian education involves teaching based on the trivium and the three laws of learning. In this type of education, there is systematic study of the trivium along with many other historic and modern applications. There are various grades involved in it and the study by this mean increases learning and logical thinking. The subjects are designed in such a way that it enhances thinking capabilities. Many believe that the traditional classical Christian education is much better than the normal school education because in the ordinary schools, the course or system of learning is very monotonous and does not enhance learning or reasoning. But the Christian education in the classical way is very systematic and original. There is no scope for monotony in the Classical Christian Education. The learning capacity of the brain is very much taken into account and depending on that the courses are decided. In the trivium, there is grammar, rhetoric and dialectic. The classical subjects are introduced too along with the trivium.

In grades 1 to 6 of the Classical Christian education, grammar is very much concentrated upon. The grades 1 to 6 are also known as the grammar stage. The next stage is the dialectic stage. This stage is the grade 7 to 9 and the next stage is the rhetoric stage that is from grade 10 to 12.

In the first stage students can only memorize that, which has been given to them in the next stage the students tend to become argument oriented. This shows the readiness to be taught about logic and critical thinking. In the last stage, there are more skills developed by the students like communication that can be verbal and written. Subjects taught at the institutions teaching classical Christian education like the Foundation Academy are history English, math, science and art.

This sole dependence on the text books are very much avoided in classical Christian education. Independent and progressive thinking increases greatly. Classical Christian education requires discipline to a great extent than other methods. In the grammar stage the learning and the repetition of the lessons are very much enjoyed by the students. They are the bases of further studies. There are grades according to which the students are marked rigidly. Teaching aids are used to make learning a fun process and institutions imparting the Classical Christian education help in the development of the student. The classical Christian education can be taught by home schooling as well. The Association of Classical and Christian Schools is another institution that imparts this type of education.
